Disasters are increasingly at the forefront of global attention. In the face of devastating losses the heartening response of many individuals, organizations and governments is to provide rescue. But ultimately the key to preventing human impact from disaster events is to limit risk, and therefore the potential for loss. This process of controlling risk is disaster management. This course is tailored to healthcare professionals wishing to increase their skills and participation in this field, hence this resource:

Competency Objectives

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
• Implement disaster management mitigation and planning phases
• Develop and implement a hazard-vulnerability analysis
• Develop, implement, and test a disaster plan
• Implement strategies to reduce vulnerability in a community and a patient population
• Participate in disaster response within one's appropriate scope of practice and expertise
• Participate in disaster recovery leadership

Upon completion the graduate will receive a certificate which can be applied towards any full professional diploma program and is eligible for registration with the World Organization of Natural Medicine as a Practitioner of Humanitarian Service.
